NLQG Community Services
|
- An important activity of the NLQG is our community service.
As a group we make quilts for people in need, because we believe
that a quilt is a great comfort when there is hardship. If a family
suffers a devastating fire, we give a quilt to each family. Another
kind of community service we do is to make comfort quilts for
guild members who move away, get married, have babies, or suffer
in their personal lives. The guild also works with charitable
organizations that provide quilts for children and people in need:
ABC Quilts, Linus Quilts, Hannah House, New Beginnings, and the
Haven.

At each meeting there is a "laundry" basket. Members put in the basket extra fabric, blocks from left over projects, or blocks they have made that they no longer want or need. From donated fabrics and blocks, kits are made up for specific kinds of quilts; mile-a-minute, collage, four-square, are just a few of the patterns used. Members take these kits, work on them, and return what they have finished. Our many machine quilters generously quilt these for us at a discount to the guild.
The committee houses the quilts and gives them out when notified of a family/person in need. Directions for the Friendship Star, Churn Dash Variation, and Spinning Arrows are located in the membership packet. Directions are always available from the Membership Committee.
